Our European adventure is going to take in 3 countries, France, Spain and Portugal. The intention is to complete the trip by train with just one flight between Marseille and Madrid. We’ll be away for 11 weeks, stopping in 15 different places, and using Airbnb for accommodation along the way.

Salerno – Italy
Arrived at our next stop after a delayed train journey, hope that’s not a sign of future trips. Found our airbnb easily, only about a 20 minute walk from the station, and it’s a nice clean modern apartment overlooking a fairly busy street. Went out and found the beach nearby which looks really nice, had…

Tropea – Italy
Day 6 today and it’s travelling day on a bus to Tropea. Total journey time was about 8 hours but to be honest it didn’t feel like that, compared to doing a journey like that on a plane. Very comfortable coach, Flixbus, and plenty of lovely countryside and scenery to enjoy. Day 7 we went…

Bari – Italy
Day one of our new European adventure we flew into Bari, and then found the metro taking you into central Bari. Very easy and cheap and only takes about 20 minutes. From there we had a 15 minute walk to our Airbnb, which we found easily. It’s in a great location and it’s a nice…

Lanzarote
Decided to squeeze a little 17 day trip into the calendar and decided on the Canary island of Lanzarote. It’s quite an amazing place in terms of variety and landscape. Didn’t really know what to expect given that neither of us have been here before. We’re staying at a place called Orzola which is a…

Syros Island
Arrived on Syros early evening and got a taxi for the short journey to the apartment, all uphill which is why we chose a cab this time. Apartment is very nice with a handy little mini market on the ground floor, which is suprisingly well stocked so got some wine and beers for the evening.…

Naxos Island
Had a lovely ferry journey from Paros and arrived at a very busy Naxos port. Walked to our apartment and first impression of the town is that it’s very nice. We were able to check in early and the airbnb was very nice too. Found a supermarket to get some provisions, and then headed out…

Paros Island
Had a rough old ferry crossing from Milos which took about 2 hours. Some heavy waves and strong winds created an experience we’ve not had before. People being sick all over the place, crew running around with sick bags and so on. Luckily we survived ok. Anyway we got to Paros and first impressions are…

Milos Island
So day 1 on Milos we walked down to the local supermarket and got some supplies for the next couple of days, water, wine, beer, gin, tonic and a bit of food of course. Then walked up into Plaka town for a look around, it’s a delightful hill top location, very pretty with great views.…

Kythnos Island
We arrived on our first island of 5 today 1st September after a very nice smooth ferry ride on Sea Jet ferries from Athens. Our property is a short walk from the port in the town of Merihas, which is a delightful small port town, with a couple of supermarkets and plenty of restaurants and…

Athens
Travelled down to Athens today by train, very smooth and scenic journey. We booked first class tickets so had a very comfortable cabin arrangement, would definitely recommend this way of travelling. The cost was £110 for both of us, an equivalent first class train journey in the UK would cost nearly £400 !! – Outrageous.…
