Had a nice comfortable and scenic trip here on a bus and arrived ahead of time. Got a 3 night stay here, first impressions is that it’s quite a large city, in actual fact it’s the 3rd biggest in Croatia. Principally it’s a sea port.
Found our airbnb which has a great view over the adriatic sea and is well equipped, so we will be nice and comfortable here. First day we found a bus to take us into the city and had a good walk around. The Korzo is a well known pedestrian street, and is lined with shops, restaurants, cafes and bars. A good vibe for sure. Also visited some Roman ruins, a cathedral, food and fish market, stopped for a nice drink at the theatre square and then walked for about 25 minutes and found a lovely little pebbly beach cove for a swim and a sunbathe. It’s called Sablicevo beach, but it’s small and very popular, so you are packed in like sardines.
The next day we decided to check a beach out in the opposite direction called Ploce beach. Got a bus there and then about a 10 minute walk. A beautiful pebble beach, crystal clear water, lovely warm sunny day, nice beach bar, and plenty of space for your towel. Had a very relaxing day.
Think overall Rijeka is a nice city but didn’t wow us like some other places we’ve been to, not somewhere I would rush back to, but still enjoyed it.
