We’ve arrived in Pula, our first stop of six in Croatia. Pula is one of the largest towns in the Istrian region of Croatia. It offers great history, home to some of the best preserved Roman architecture in the world, beautiful beach coves, mainly rocks to lay on or pebbled beaches, and the water is just beautiful as you will see in some of the images below.
So day one we checked in to our airbnb which is a little quirky but quite nice, found a supermarket to buy some provisions and just chilled out at home. Day 2 we went for a good walk to explore the beaches and settled for one called Zelenika. A very nice quiet pebbled beach with a beach bar close by. Took a picnic to enjoy but used the beach bar for a lunchtime beer, much needed on a very hot day.
Day 3 was a little cooler after an overnight thunderstorm cleared the air a little, so we set off into Pula town to check it out and catch the main sights. The roman arena is very impressive as is the old roman temple of Augustus. We also went to an olive oil museum and tasting session and finally the Zerostrasse, an underground tunnel system created before WW1 as part of the city protection from bombing. All very interesting and well worth doing.
We then headed to another beach for a nice cooling dip and a bit of late afternoon sun.
Last 2 days in Pula we beached it at Valsaline beach, another pebble beach with perfect crystal clear blue water, a decent beach bar selling lovely cold beer and a surprisingly tasty hot dog! And the weather was perfect, sunny, warm but low humidity and a gentle breeze. What is there not to like.
