Next stop another beautiful city in the region of Umbria. Our airbnb is tucked away in a quiet lane very close to the centre of everything, which is great. Went and had a little explore in the afternoon and did a bit of shopping. It is a really pretty city, with tons of history and religious sights. The place which is dedicated to the saints Francis and Clare.
On our full first day we went up to the top of the city and looked around Rocca Maggiore, a 12th century, castle/fort, which is very impressive and well worth the climb up. The views from the top are stunning.
We then went and saw the cathedral in Piazza Rufino, had a couple of drink stops on the way, and finished the day of sightseeing with the church of Saint Chiara (Clare). A very pleasant day in a very unique and authentic city.

Second day in Assisi we went and saw some more of the historic sights, the most significant being the Basilica of Saint Francis, which is a quite stunning two storey church. The art frescos and on the walls and ceilings are beautiful, and the scale of the whole building and architecture is very impressive.
We also saw the Temple of Minerva and the Roman Forum, as well as just enjoying ambling through the narrow streets of Assisi taking in beautiful, pretty scenes and fabulous old buildings at every turn. It’s definitely worth a visit to this historic city.
