So we’re a few days away from the end of our 4 week stay in Tavira. It’s been absolutely fantastic, weather has been a little more mixed than previous times and definitely a consistent strong breeze most afternoons, but that aside it’s been perfecto. I highly recommend Tavira to anyone looking for a quiet, chilled out place with fab beaches and a tranquil town with plenty of good restaurants and bars.
We also enjoy going to Barril beach in nearby Pedras del Rei. This used to be a tuna fishing community, but sadly some years ago due to the advance of industrial fishing the local community couldn’t compete, hence now the infastructure has been adapted to accomodate the rising tourism industry. Here are some images of Barril beach.
You can either walk to the beach which takes about 20 minutes or get a little train 4 euros return which takes about 10 mins.
We then walked to Santa Luzia, the next village along on the way back to Tavira. It is famed for it’s octopus cookery, so we thought we’d hunt some down.
And now for a couple of final images of our time in Tavira before we head off to Lisbon and then a small onward journey to Cascais
