Arrived on Syros early evening and got a taxi for the short journey to the apartment, all uphill which is why we chose a cab this time. Apartment is very nice with a handy little mini market on the ground floor, which is suprisingly well stocked so got some wine and beers for the evening.
First day was a sunday so not a lot open but found a supermarket with a reasonable amount of stuff, so did a food shop and then went to explore the town. Ermoupoli is very different to all the other towns we’ve stayed in on the other islands. It feels very much more classical with some great architecture, beautiful pastel coloured buildings, and a bit of a busy vibe to it, so we really enjoyed having a good look around.
In the afternoon we took a walk up into Ano Syros, which is a hilltop historical village above Ermoupoli. It doesn’t take long to get there but it’s all uphill with about 400 steps to navigate. It is a very pretty village but hardly anything open, so very quiet, but well worth a visit.

Day 2 we walked down to the port and picked up our hire car. It’s a cloudy wet day so all we can do really is go for a drive around the island and check out some beaches that we like the look of for the next 2 or 3 days. Bit unusual to see a greek island covered in cloud and rain, but we can’t complain I suppose.

Days 3 and 4 were nice and sunny, so we decided to head for Delfini beach, nice medium sized bay with a taverna at one end with sunbeds and a nice sandy expanse to lay your towel and get your clothes off at the other end. The easy option was to use this beach both days, very enjoyable and relaxing.
Day 5 started nice but forecast was that cloud and potential rain would roll in so we hit the beach for a couple of hours and then headed into the port for a very nice italian meal at a restaurant called Amvix. Rest of the day we just relaxed at the airbnb. Overall an excellent trip enjoying laid back greece and some of the islands.
