We had a great drive down from Eden and arrived in Lakes Entrance at around 4pm. Our place here is absolutely amazing, great space indoors and outside. Abundant with birdlife, peaceful and relaxing. Definitely one of the best airbnbs we’ve stayed in anywhere.
Went into town and stocked up the fridge with food and drink. Decided we’re going to cook in every night here, started with a nice chili con carne. Here’s a couple of videos of the drive down, we stopped at a couple of lovely spots.
Day 2 in Lakes Entrance we went to the main beach, which is what they call 90 mile beach, a vast strip of sand, dunes and rolling waves as far as you can see in both directions. We couldn’t believe why the beach is so sparsely populated, but I guess it’s not quite yet the peak holiday season in Australia. Took a little picnic lunch with us using the little esky which was available in the property, had a thoroughly enjoyable day, and cooked up a nice BBQ in the evening.
Day 3 was quite cloudy and cool so we went for a 5k walk, behind the main beach and then back along the front of it, and then we basically just chilled out in our comfortable accommodation.
Set off in the morning for Wilsons Prom, and enjoyed another fabulous drive. The scenery was different than the last journey, and roads much straighter, but the vastness of Australia struck home that’s for sure.
Not far from Lakes Entrance we stopped at a town called Paynesville, which is where you can access a small island called Raymonds island, home to 100’s of Koala bears. This was a great little stop and I would recommend it if you’re in this part of Australia.
The one thing you must do in this country is not set off for a long journey with a low tank of fuel. I had about a third of a tank, thinking I’ll just top up at the next service station. We went on and on and no service station to be seen. Limped into a town luckily called Sale and managed to fill up before I ran out.
