We arrived at our next place Kangaroo Island on 2nd Feb. It’s about an hours drive to Cape Jervis from Adelaide and then a 45 minute ferry to the island. On the way we stopped at a place called Victor Harbour which is an attractive little town. Had a brunch and a little walk over the bridge to Granite island. You can also get a horse drawn tram over the bridge, but it costs $25 return, not really worth it or necessary, unless your disabled of course.

Driving on Kangaroo Island is amazing. Many of the roads are unmarked, not much better than dirt or gravel tracks, there is hardly any traffic, and many of the roads are straight for miles on end. Look at the video clips below for an example of what I mean.
Day one on KI was very hot, 37 degrees, so we went to Emu Bay which is well known for being able to drive your car onto the beach. It’s a 5 km long bay and looks absolutely stunning, being able to put our awning up was essential given how hot the day was.
After Emu bay we drove a bit further along the northern edge of the island to another fantastic beach called Stokes bay. You have to walk through a tunnel of limestone rocks to reach it but its worth it.
Enjoy the images and videos.

Day 2 on KI and we went on a bit of a sight seeing tour. Drove down to Flinders Chase national park, which was another epic drive. Saw something called Admirals Arch and then the Remarkable rocks, which truly are remarkable, 500 million years in the making and still evolving day by day, year by year. So fortunate to witness this example of nature in its truest form.
We then drove on to Vivonne beach, a vast ocean beach on the south of the island, unfortunately too windy to spend much time here but a great visual experience, and then onto the General Store for lunch, which on recommendation we chose the famous Whiting fish burger, which was excellent fare I must say. The drive then continued back to home, via firstly the Little Sahara experience which we stopped at out of interest, and then the local KI brewery where we sampled a couple of brews. A very enjoyable day.

Day 3 on this brilliant island we did a bit more exploring; went to Pennington bay first and then a little visit to a sleepy little fishing town called American River, not a lot going on there but we stopped for coffee, and then got a nice surprise to see a large seal on the harbor arm showing off.
Then took a drive to another great scenic lookout called Red Banks, before heading to Snelling beach for the afternoon for swimming and sunbathing, and what another magnificent beach it was too, as you will see.

Last day was beautiful, sunny and warm, so we decided to head back to Emu bay for the day. A nice way to finish our time on KI.

Had a long drive back to Horsham where we stayed the night to break up the journey on the way back to Melbourne, nice town and decent motel. Had a great Thai meal for dinner.
Then headed off to Melbourne on the 8th, stopping at Ballarat for a bit of lunch and to stretch our legs. The Botanical gardens are very nice and worth a visit if you are ever visiting here.

Back in Mount Martha on 8th Feb, nice to catch up with Sam and Lisa again, played a final round of golf with Sam on the Sunday and then caught up with a few mates in a pub in Frankston for send off drinks. And that’s about the end of our Australian adventure. Here’s a final few pics of our last night together enjoying fish and chips on the beach.
