  • South Goa

    South Goa

So we’ve finished our first retirement trip to South Goa and our stay in Colva. I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to escape from the cold, wet and windy winter of the UK. Colva was a great place to stay, really able to immerse yourself in some of the Indian way of life.…

A few short videos of some of our moments in India. Nature in action, preparing food, watching fisherman at work and a tree climbing exhibition. See link @JimCarter-sq8js

  • Scenery

    Scenery

Although Goa is renowned for its beaches and sunshine we were still impressed by the amount of green vegetation that surrounds the area. Here are some images of the countryside and a bit of the wildlife!

  • Culture day

    Culture day

The best features of Goa are the beaches, the weather and the food, but today we ventured out to see some of the local culture and history. We visited Shantadurga temple, Panjim church and Old Goa Church, the latter being over 400 years old. To be honest it was a bit underwhelming overall. Make sure…

  • Our Home Made Meals in India

Our Home Made Meals in India

We’v enjoyed buying local produce and cooking up some lovely simple meals in our apartment. We would definitely recommend being brave and buying the local fish at the fish market in Colva, explore the big market in Margao town, and use the local fruit and veg stalls. We’ve had no delly belly problems and had…

  • Benaulim and Benaulim Beach

    Benaulim and Benaulim Beach

I definitely recommend this beach if you’re planning on a stay in South Goa. The little village is great with plenty of nice bars and restaurants in a nice chilled out and authentic location. On the beach itself there a number of good quality beach shacks to park your towel on a sunbed and enjoy…

  • Dudhsagar Falls

    Dudhsagar Falls

I recommend a day away from the beaches to do this trip, well worth a visit. We left nice and early, which was a good thing to do as the crowds build up quickly during the morning. It’s about a 1 hour 15 min taxi from Colva, then you get on a bumpy old jeep…

  • Eating out and Eating in

    Eating out and Eating in

Went out tonight to a local pizza restaurant recommended by our apartment hosts, and very good it was too. Not the most exotic environment but the pizzas were excellent and cheap. If you’re in Colva I would recommend Woodfire smoked Pizza. Last night we also made our second home made curry, this time using the…

  • Local food

    Local food

Paid a visit to the local fish market today, unreal, so basic, cheap and yummy. Got some golden fish and king prawns, cooked up the golden fish tonight with some masala spices and a side salad, delicious? Going to do the prawns in a curry next week, sitting nicely in our freezer right now.

  • Varca Beach

    Varca Beach

Took a Tuk Tuk to Varca beach today, probably the prettiest beach we’ve been to so far, quite remote but had a great beach shack as always serving food and cold drinks all day. The best bit about these beach shacks is that you pay nothing for sun beds or umbrellas. You just get a…
