Our European adventure is going to take in 3 countries, France, Spain and Portugal. The intention is to complete the trip by train with just one flight between Marseille and Madrid. We’ll be away for 11 weeks, stopping in 15 different places, and using Airbnb for accommodation along the way.

Marseille day 3
Highlight of day 3 was going on a guided walk for 2.5 hours, getting to know some of the history of Marseille. As always there is a lot to learn, but how much will I remember? We’ve been using a company called Get your Guide to book some of our trips, they’re pretty good, I…

Marseille day 2
Another day of exploring and also managed to get a couple of hours sunbathing on Marseille city beach. It really is a great city, much bigger and busier than we thought it would be. Don’t think 4 days will be enough to see it all, especially since we are doing a full day trip to…

Marseille
Arrived in Marseille today. What a great buzzing city, first impressions very positive. Sun was out and it felt lovely and warm. We were too early to check in, so dumped our luggage and had a stroll around the very large and impressive port, and checked out a couple of places we want to visit…

Lyon final day
A great last day in Lyon, walked to the Parc de La Tete D’Or which includes a zoo which is all free, so definitely recommend this as a place to go. Great outdoor space with a very scenic lake and rose gardens. The zoo is also surprisingly nice. Then we went to Les Halles Paul…

Lyon
Arrived yesterday afternoon and found our little studio, which is situated in the heart of the old city. Very nice little place, well equipped and comfortable. Had a little wander and found a great square to chill with a drink and watch the world go by. We then found a great supermarket and stocked up…

Palace de Versailles
Day 2 of our little Paris adventure and we spent the day visiting the above. I would highly recommend this as a day out. We didn’t purchase tickets to go inside the palace, just visited the gardens, which are spectacular despite the fact that we visited on a grey and rainy day. I can’t imagine…

France
So we started our European adventure with a Eurostar train to Paris, very enjoyable bombing along at in excess of 160 mph across the French countryside, accompanied by a fairly loud and excitable hen party? Managed to navigate the metro and RER in Paris to arrive at our location in Puteaux at about 5pm. Nice…

Krakow, Poland
Our first trip to Europe is to Krakow in Poland. Plan is to visit the Auschwitz site and also do the Salt mines. Tried to do Schindler factory and museum today, but very busy and after 1 hour in the queue decided to give it a miss and see Wawel castle instead. I would recommend…

Auschwitz
I would strongly recommend a visit to this historic site, but be prepared for an emotional journey. It is difficult to hear about some of the atrocities that the Nazis inflicted on these innocent people, and the scale of their cruelty is just impossible to comprehend and understand. It’s a full day trip and you’re…

Amazing Salt Mine Near Krakow
Another highly recommended place to visit is the salt mine near Krakow. It’s only a short train ride from Krakow main railway station, and the public transport is excellent in and around the city by the way. This mine was started in the 17th century and goes down 135 metres. Along the way your tour…
