Cascais and Sintra

We stayed for 3 nights in Cascais, which is a beach resort suburb of Lisbon. We caught a train from Cais do Sodre, a 40 minute journey. It’s a pleasant enough town with some nice town beaches, although must admit a bit of a big contrast to what we’ve enjoyed over the last month in Tavira.

It’s a very busy place with lots of ongoing new developments going on, but the old town still retains some character and is quite attractive.

I would also recommend a trip to nearby Sintra if you’re in Cascais. It’s a really attractive town with lots to see. Be mindful that it is quite hilly, so not easy to move from one attraction to another. We went to Quinta da Regaleira, which is well worth a visit, as these images demonstrate. There is also Pena palace but we ran out of energy to do that as well, so opted for a very nice lunch stop instead, plenty of nice restaurants in the town. You need to buy tickets for Pena in advance, we only had tickets for the gardens.
