Bordeaux

So we arrived here on Monday 29th July and the temperature was a roasting 39 degrees, a bit hot to be travelling from the station on a tram to our accommodation and then climbing 60 stairs with a heavy suitcase but we did it. Apartment is very nice and spacious, with a good outdoor area, although we were more interested in how good the air conditioning worked to be honest.

Day 1 we went for an explore in the morning through a public park. Then strolled through the attractive tree lined streets. It really is yet another amazing European city. It is one of the largest urban developments that are on the UNESCO World Heritage list

In the afternoon we went for a wine tour and visited the medieval village of Saint Emillion. It was a great afternoon and I would highly recommend a wine tour if you are visiting Bordeaux. I probably don’t need to say it’s one of the most famous wine regions in France, if not the world. We learned a lot about the history of wine making in this region, why the conditions are so good, the regulations involved in the wine making industry here in France, and the processes involved in making the wine.

We obviously also enjoyed several wine tastings during the trip and a little local snack to go with the vino at the end!

The first chateaux we visited, Bonalgue, Pomerol

After the tasting we then went to Saint Emillion, which is a truly charming medieval village in the area. Spent some time wandering the cobbled streets, and admiring the scenery and views. Never seen so many wine shops in one place.

Day 2 in Bordeaux we went on a guided city walk which are always quite interesting and a good way to both explore and learn about the city you’re in. Also you often get very good tips and recommendations about what to see, and where to eat and drink.
