    France

So we started our European adventure with a Eurostar train to Paris, very enjoyable bombing along at in excess of 160 mph across the French countryside, accompanied by a fairly loud and excitable hen party? Managed to navigate the metro and RER in Paris to arrive at our location in Puteaux at about 5pm. Nice…

    Going Racing

Enjoyed a great day at the season finale event at Plumpton Races. Weather was gorgeous and we both walked out with more money than we came with. Can’t often say that. I definitely recommend this racecourse for a good day out.

  • Krakow, Poland

    Krakow, Poland

Our first trip to Europe is to Krakow in Poland. Plan is to visit the Auschwitz site and also do the Salt mines. Tried to do Schindler factory and museum today, but very busy and after 1 hour in the queue decided to give it a miss and see Wawel castle instead. I would recommend…

  • Auschwitz

    Auschwitz

I would strongly recommend a visit to this historic site, but be prepared for an emotional journey. It is difficult to hear about some of the atrocities that the Nazis inflicted on these innocent people, and the scale of their cruelty is just impossible to comprehend and understand. It’s a full day trip and you’re…

    Amazing Salt Mine Near Krakow

Another highly recommended place to visit is the salt mine near Krakow. It’s only a short train ride from Krakow main railway station, and the public transport is excellent in and around the city by the way. This mine was started in the 17th century and goes down 135 metres. Along the way your tour…

  • Spring is in the air

It’s not all about going abroad, there’s plenty of beauty and scenery to admire right on our doorstep. The beauty of retirement is that in between all the rubbish weather we’ve been getting here, when the sun does come out we can just drop what we’re doing and take advantage of it.

  • South Goa

    South Goa

So we’ve finished our first retirement trip to South Goa and our stay in Colva. I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to escape from the cold, wet and windy winter of the UK. Colva was a great place to stay, really able to immerse yourself in some of the Indian way of life.…

    Scenery

Although Goa is renowned for its beaches and sunshine we were still impressed by the amount of green vegetation that surrounds the area. Here are some images of the countryside and a bit of the wildlife!

  • Culture day

    Culture day

The best features of Goa are the beaches, the weather and the food, but today we ventured out to see some of the local culture and history. We visited Shantadurga temple, Panjim church and Old Goa Church, the latter being over 400 years old. To be honest it was a bit underwhelming overall. Make sure…
