We set off to Adelaide via a one night stay in a place called Robe. Before we got there we decided to take a small detour to Mount Gambier to see a couple of well known sites – Umpherston sinkhole and the Blue Lake. This part of the state of South Australia is well known for it’s limestone cliffs and caves. It was a well worthwhile visit, very much enjoyed these unique natural attractions, all free once again. Must hand it to the Aussies they don’t charge for a lot of the lovely attractions nature has created.

We then drove to Robe for our one night stay in a cheap and cheerful motel that I wouldn’t recommend. It had a very dated feel to it, no Wifi, no food or drink options and no aircon, there was a decent fan though to be fair. Robe itself is a nice little place. Has an amazing Long beach that you can drive your car on, but we were there on the Australia day weekend, so the place was packed, so we decided not to join the masses on the beaches and headed off early for Adelaide. The car drive was beautiful, driving along the coast and through the Coorong national park, stopped a few times to catch some of the sights.

Arrived in Adelaide about lunchtime, very hot day. Nice apartment, albeit a bit on the small side, but comfortable and well equipped. Went out to do some shopping and then took a drive to Brighton beach, suburb of Adelaide and the neighbouring suburb is named Hove just like back in the UK.
On our first full day in Adelaide it was a scorching 34 degrees, so we went back to Brighton beach for the day, which happened to be Elaine’s birthday too.

On day 2 we went for a guided walking tour with a lovely man named Graeme. He was very knowledgeable and friendly and we really enjoyed learning about some of the Adelaide history. After that we decided to stroll through some of Adelaide’s lovely parks and botanical gardens, before heading home to chill out and relax.

Day 3 and 4 we simply enjoyed spending time on some of the city beaches at Henley and Glenelg, beautiful large sandy beaches, great for walking, running, sunbathing, and with so much space to yourself, just amazing.

Day 5 we went on a wine tour to The Lane vineyard which I would highly recommend. We did the ATV Experience, personal guide who was friendly and knowledgeable, great wines 5 glasses in all I think, served with food treats along the way, oysters, charcuterie board, tuna cerviche and something else?
Then we had a 2 course meal with 3 more glasses of wine, and then sat in the grounds outside with a glass of rose waiting for our cab, the driver of said vehicle, Rizzie, was an absolute motor mouth. Really nice guy but honestly he did not shut up from start to finish, and we had him on both journeys! No wonder Elaine and I had to have a lay down after all that when we got home.

So our last day in Adelaide was a hot one so we spent it at Christies beach, about a 40 minute drive south of the city. Another very nice large beach, perfect for swimming and sunbathing. After the beach it was back home to get ready for our last meal out at a great pub just around the corner from our apartment. I would certainly recommend The Kentish for a meal out.
