Tauranga

Arrived Tauranga on 14th March, nice compact little airbnb in a unit below the owners house. Went out and got some provisions and then visited one of the beaches nearby called Papamoa, a lovely long expanse of sandy beach. Enjoyed a couple of hours chilling out there.

On day 2 weather was perfect again so decided to drive to Mount Maurganui beach only about 20 mins away. Had a lovely day sunbathing and swimming there , and went for a nice walk along the front of the beach and around a little island called Moturiki.

Day 3 was another fine warm sunny day so we took a drive for about an hour to Waihi beach, which was well recommended online. It was another lovely long white sand beach with some nice waves, but not a lot different to Mount Mauganui to be fair, which we preferred; maybe we’re just getting a bit blase. We still enjoyed a few hours there until the clouds rolled in, so we headed back to Tauranga and went for a bite to eat at a mexican place in town called Rosie’s which was quite nice, cheap and cheerful.

Our final day started with a very pleasant trip to Kaitie (Kay-ti) falls. This very much exceeded expectations, lovely walk down through woods catching views of a number of different cascades as you go down, and then you cross over at the bottom pool, where 3 girls were enjoying themselves swimming under the waterfall, and make your way up a winding track with quite a few steep steps. Definitely panting a bit at the top and worked up a bit of a sweat.

From there we went back to Papamoa beach, where I had a nice 3 mile run, and then we just sunbathed and swam for around 3 hours. Nice day to finish our time in Tauranga.
